留置生活の途中、この本が届いた。以下の画像の２枚目で着日が11/2だとわかる。
元々宇宙のことを調べるのが好きなのだったのだが、妻が僕の趣味を察してくれて差し入れてくれた。ページを開くと、息子の手形と足形があった。接見禁止（人権侵害）中の僕にとって、本当に心の支えとなった。
実はこれは留置の検閲に引っかかってしまうとこの本の差し入れは却下されていた。しかし、本のデザインとよほど一体になっていたのか、そのまま僕の手元に届いた。留置職員の落ち度ではないと彼らの名誉のために言っておこう。彼らは警察組織の中でも秩序を重んじる素晴らしい方々だった。
本の内容だが、この本が宇宙一分かりやすいのであれば宇宙の理解を諦めてしまう人がいるかもしれない・・・笑。いや、僕はこの本を大絶賛する。宇宙に興味がある人にとって宇宙のことが宇宙一わかる本であったからだ。イラストや噛み砕いた表現、宇宙のロマン、そして人類の未来が映像のように目の前に飛び込んできたからだ。モニターなど一切ない生活を余儀なくされていたので、このような想像を掻き立てる本は救いの一冊となった。
宇宙の始まりと終焉、宇宙を構成しているもの、エネルギー、重力、光、量子、宇宙の移動方法、生命、ブラックホール、宇宙人など多岐に渡るのだが、一番ロマティックな話は「中性子」についてだ。
この地球上にある貴重な鉱物、例えば金やプラチナは太陽の10倍以上の大きさの天体が死んだ（スーパーノヴァ）後にできる究極の天体、「中性子星」が、さらに衝突しあって（キロノヴァ）生み出されるものなのだ。宇宙で最も安定した物質の一つである鉄なども元々地球に存在したのではなく、別の星の爆発や衝突により生み出された物質が地球にやってきて存在したものである。
スマホの中にも、指輪にも使われている鉱物は宇宙の壮大な歴史の生き証人のようなものだ。
実は、2023年の年末に留置場の同じ部屋の同居人4人と共に、誰が一番最後まで起きていられるかというコンペをやったのだが、1人脱落した後の4人でなかなか勝負が決まらなかった。そこで、皆でつまらない話をして相手を眠りに誘うという間抜けな争いになったのだが、僕はこの宇宙の話を30分ほどゆっくりさせてもらった。すると、全員から「寝かせてくれ」と白旗を上げられ、好きな話で饒舌だった僕は眠れないという羽目になってしまった。
宇宙の話はあまり人気がないのであろうか。

During my detention, this book arrived, as shown in the second image above, with a delivery date of November 2nd.
I’ve always had an interest in space, and my wife, understanding this hobby of mine, sent it to me. When I opened the book, I found handprints and footprints of our son. For someone in detention with no access to visits (a human rights violation), it was a true emotional support.
Actually, the book initially faced rejection due to censorship regulations for detention. However, perhaps due to its design blending well, it was delivered to me as is. To preserve their honor, I should clarify that this was not a fault of the detention staff; they were wonderful people who valued order within the police organization.
Regarding the content of the book: if this book is indeed the easiest to understand about space, it might make some people give up on understanding space altogether… just kidding! I highly praise this book. For those interested in space, it was indeed the best book for understanding the universe. The illustrations, simplified explanations, the romance of space, and the future of humanity vividly came to life for me. Being without any monitors or screens, this imaginative book was a saving grace.
The book covers a broad range of topics including the origins and end of the universe, what constitutes the universe, energy, gravity, light, quantum mechanics, space travel, life, black holes, and extraterrestrials. The most romantic topic is about “neutron stars.”
Valuable minerals on Earth, such as gold and platinum, are created from neutron stars, which are ultimate celestial objects formed after a star ten times the size of the Sun dies (supernova) and then collides with another neutron star (kilonova). Even stable substances like iron, found on Earth, were not originally present but arrived from explosions or collisions of other stars.
Minerals in smartphones and jewelry are like living witnesses to the grand history of the universe.
In fact, at the end of 2023, I participated in a competition with three other detainees in the same room to see who could stay awake the longest. After one person dropped out, it took a while for the remaining four to determine a winner. The competition turned into a silly fight where we tried to bore each other to sleep. I talked about space for about 30 minutes, and everyone eventually waved the white flag and asked to go to sleep. I ended up unable to sleep because I was so engrossed in the conversation.
Perhaps space topics aren’t very popular.
