Zero-One

Take that first step from zero.

I read the manga version of Zero by Takafumi Horie (Horiemon), which was brought in for me. Even though I’m a slow reader, I was able to finish it in about three hours. The book alternates between manga and Horiemon’s own writing. From what I felt after reading it, I know it may sound presumptuous, but he and I had remarkably similar paths and ways of thinking up until we moved to Tokyo. Towards the end of the book, he compares life to an RPG, and I’ve always thought of life as like Dragon Quest.

Now, being detained and locked up, I comfort—or rather, encourage—myself by thinking that even some of the Dragon Quest heroes went through the same thing.

Horiemon’s words, “I believe in myself and in my companions,” really struck a chord with me.

ゼロから一歩目を踏み出そう。

堀江貴文（ホリエモン）の「マンガ版ゼロ」の差し入れを読んだ。読むのが遅い俺でも3時間程度で読破できる。マンガとホリエモンの文章が交互になる構成の本だ。読んだ感想から言うとおこがましいのを承知で言うが、彼と俺は上京までの過程や考え方が本当にソックリだった。本の締め近くで人生をRPGに例えるのだが、俺は常に人生はドラクエだと思って生きている。

今、留置されロックアップされているが、ドラクエの主人公も何人か同じ目にあっている。と思って自分をなぐさめている、いや、はげましている。

「自分を信じ、仲間を信じているから」

というホリエモンの言葉が胸に来た。
